Club Owner's Quick Guide

If you need help with your club, you can use one of the following addresses:

How To Create A Newsgroup Club

This is very important! Once, you create a club, you must keep the username that you created the club with and keep that nic's email turned on.

Otherwise, the club will be automatically deleted in about 7 days or maybe less, depending on when the username sweeps occur.

The only way to get your club reinstated is to call 1-800-gowebtv and ask have your nic added back in.

To edit charters, ban users, or delete posts, go to the

Alt Discuss Administration Page

Choose the alt discuss clubs maintenance link. Then, select the club owner options. Then, choose the club managing link that you want to work on and follow the instructions.

Note: You enter the club owner options from the same username as the club that you're trying to manage. Otherwise, you'll need to switch users and go to the club administration page from there..

You can also add HTML to your charter page. Just go to your club owner options. Choose "edit charter". Then enter your text and code. Here is a basic charter template code with instructions on how to adapt the code to your liking.

And that code will create this charter page:

Club Registration Agreement

This must be agreed to before you can create a club.
This has the rules on creating a club as well as managing one.
You can find this on the club administration page under the "create a club" link.

World Of Webtv

You may forward all imposter and unsolicited commercial newsgroup posts to
abuse@corp.webtv.net.

To remove unwanted posts, such as vulgar or insulting posts, sse my ban and delete instructions.

The best thing to do with people like this is to ignore them. You can't reason with unreasonable people.

To report unsolicited commercial email by non-webtv users, sign up for SpamCop's free service at
http://spamcop.net/anonsignup.shtml.

You'll be given your own reporting email address to forward spam to. Then, when you get spam in your email, write to
uce@ftc.gov, spam@corp.webtv.net, YourReportingNic@spam.spamcop.net.

Some Newsgroup Terms

LOL means laugh out loud.

TTT/NM means to the top and no message. This is used to push an important post to the top of the discussion board.

Spam is an unsolicited commercial post or email. If certain commercial posts are on topic for your club, then those would not be considered spam.

Post Flooding is where the poster makes many posts that are empty messages or off topic, but not insulting, in order to disrupt the discussion board.

Post Melding Is when two different threads merge into one. You can unmeld a thread by deleting the first post that started the meld.

A person, who deliberately insults club or newsgroup members or tries to stir up controversy is called a troll. What do you do, if a person is deliberately making insulting posts (called Flame) to other club members, continuously posts off topic in your club or is doing something else that is not allowed by your club charter?

Webtv is not concerned with minor bickering type posts, so there's no point in forwarding them to abuse@webtv.net.

But, can delete the offending post or even ban that poster from your club, if you so choose. Go to your Club Administration Page, a section called "club owner's options". Click on that link. Now, select either the "delete unwanted articles" button or the "add to ban list" button and proceed from there.

Rumors can get started and spread quickly through newsgroups. Please, take the time to verify the facts before passing on any rumors. Here is a nice page that discusses Webtv breaking news and discusses the validity of current rumors. Diana's Newsource
