My Favorite Christmas Memory...Melissa Mckeen

We were living in Chile and since South America is below the equator, our seasons were reversed. Every year, the American Ambassador would invite all the expatriots to the American Embassy for Christmas, and I remember going to this beautiful mansion and seeing it all decorated in red and green for the holidays. The people in charge of decorating always did an amazing job. Every year they created a beautiful winter wonderland, complete with Christmas trees, snowmen, candy canes, snowflakes, and Santas all bundled up for the winter. The only problem was that since the seasons were reversed, Christmas was celebrated in what was our summer! I remember always being puzzled by the whole thing, but never wanted to question it because it was all so beautiful. It was a pretty funny situation to see some poor guy dressed up as Santa in the middle of the summer who had to deal with the heat but still somehow managed to make it feel like Christmas when we were so far from home.

My Favorite Christmas Memory..Christine Illuminato I remember every year my parents would go out to a friends house for a big Christmas eve party. My sister Marie and brother-in-law (boyfriend at the time) use to watch Janet,Anthony and I. We always had so much fun they would wake us up after midnight and we would open some of our presents. One year I got a table top organ. Let me tell you I played that thing so much that I think I wore out the keys. That was the year I thought I was going to perform at Carnegie Hall. Until the following year when I received a paint by number set. Then I thought I was going to become a famous artist!

My Favorite Christmas Memory... Tommy Anastasio I remember one Christmas when we were still living on 47 Withers Street,I went out the back door of our house, dressed as Santa Claus and entered the front door bringing small gifts to my younger brothers Joe and Al and my sister Anne. Anne was so frightened that she started to cry and cry. Only when I took off the costume did she finally stop crying. I really felt badly.

GRANDMOTHER..IRENA ANASTASIO

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Anne Anastasio Cerulli I remember that Mama used to work all day in the store on Lorimer Street, then on Christmas Eve would start cooking late in the afternoon. She would cook all kinds of fish, fried, baked, in pasta, etc. It was quite a spread. We used the good dishes and glasses and placed them on our good tablecloth. The next day, after church, she would cook again usually making chicken with all the fixings. New Year's Eve she again would put out a spread for all the neighbors and good customers. There would be champagne and desserts for the Open House. It was a wonderful time.

My Favorite Christmas Memory....Jack Forgione I remember I was about 5 years old and I got my first bicycle.... It was red and had three wheels. I was so excited and went much too fast and ringing the little bell on it as I raced along the street. My Mother used to be nervous that I would fall and hurt myself, but it was great..

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Maria Forgione Antoniello I was 9 years old and I had gotten a beautiful porcelain doll wearing a pretty pink dress. I just loved her and was enjoying playing with it and then my Brother Tommy got hold of it and pushed in the eyes. I cried so hard and was so sad and
thankfully my Father was able to fix it for me. Of course, by this time Tommy was hiding under the bed since he knew he was wrong and my father was looking for him....

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Cathy Antoniello Koster

A special Christmas for me was when I about 14. Everyone had opened their toys and gifts and we were all sitting around when my Dad said, "Cathleen, I just remembered...there's another box in the closet. Let's go get it. In the box was a portable Hi-Fi with 2 separate speakers (STEREO). There was even a couple of record albums. One was, Connie Francis singing Italian Songs. This machine practically became my world. As soon as I had some money (84 cents for a 45 RPM record, I started my Rock and Roll collection and I never had to listen on Sunday to Frank Sinatra's music on the radio again (until I got older and realized how great he was)."

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Rose Russo Conte

Christmas has always been a special time in my life. I was born into a wonderful family , with the best unselfish and caring parents. As I grew up many family traditions were made and kept . Each year was the same happy time with some changes, a sister's wedding, a new brother-in- law, a new baby,a new friend, a husband, my children. The biggest surprise gift I received was the birth of my twin girls on December 20,th 1964. there were no early sonograms to prepare a mother for multiple births.I found out when they were born. They came home with me on Christmas Day.

Since then, Sal and I have been blessed with many other gifts throughout the years....five children and ten grandchildren! We are looking forward to this Christmas for the whole family will be celebrating together. .

Our Favorite Christmas Memory...Nina & Guy Anastasio...

One of our favorite Christmas memories can be seen in this picture of our granddaughters Brooke Lynds (left of Santa) and Erica Lynds (right of Santa) when they were tots. The expression on their faces is priceless. Santa sent them to bed after his visit and they never stirred until Christmas morning! Today at ages 19 and 21 respectively, they still ask who Santa was. We still tell them he must have been the real thing

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Karen Gilmartin

One of my fondest memories of Christmas Eve was all the wonderful smells in my grandmother's house, especially the zeppoles! She was always making something delicious. I loved her honey balls and all the great fish she made. I always remember her making her own ravioli and rolling it on the table while all 25 of us grandchildren were running around. When she was finished, she always had time for cards or jacks or just talking. We always had a lot of fun all together as kids. My grandfather was always singing and teasing us and we were always willing to put on a show. Now, I am making my own memories with my family and our children. This year my brother Tom and his wife Tracey will be having Christmas Eve at their house in Bay Shore. First we will go to 5:00p.m. Christmas Eve mass where my children sing in the choir and then we will meeting everyone there for our traditional fish dinner complete with zeppoles for dessert! Merry Christmas to all my cousins!

My Favorite Christmas Memory...Bobby Lander

My favorite x-mas childhood memory was 12-24-40.....my grandfather Sam Lander who I adored took me to town with him that night under false pretense....While we were gone my father set up my Lional Train, they had built me a city to go with it and had it all running under and around the christmas tree. The city had street lighs the buildings were lite up and the train had lights as well....You can only guess about the look on a 5 year olds face,I still have the train and city to this day,I keep it in case I regress in my old age, then I will have something to do LOL......
