Changes to alt.discuss Vote Status Article
As many of you have already noticed, the daily vote status article has been modified to include for/against voting buttons for each proposed newsgroup.
This is NOT a significant change in the voting system. It is merely an "official" version of the voting pages that other users have created. It's advantage, if any, is that it is guaranteed to be complete, up-to-date (as of 1AM every morning) and it will always generate syntactically-correct votes.
The email voting method described in the "Newsgroup Creation Rules" article still works (the voting page is just a front-end to that.)
All of the existing voting pages will, for now, continue to work. I am trying to create a new backend for the voting system which will mandate that *only* official voting mechanisms can be used. It isn't ready yet. The mailto-based voting buttons in the Vote Status article are an intermediate step.
It is likely that additional changes, such as links to a Newsgroup Creation Rules page and a FAQ page, will be made to the Vote Status page in the next few days. I'll also try to find a way to provides links to the proposed newsgroup charters.
