James (Jim) Barbas

Email:

I enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in Jan. 1955. I received Basic Training at Lackland Air , Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. I attended Recip Engine school at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, nl.

I was assigned to the 68th Air Refueling Squadron at Lake Charles, La. In Oct., 1955. I made two (2) TDY assignments to Goose Bay, Labrador with the 68th. I worked on the Post Flight crew and as assistant crew Chief with Gene Owens. The skills and talents acquired as a maintenance person on the KC-97 aircraft remain a lifetime experience. After 50 years of separation from workmates, friends and companions, I am grateful for this opportunity for remembrance and reunion.

I married Margaret Baggett of Pace, Fl. In June of 1956. We have five children, Jim, Nov. 1957; Rick, Apr. 1959; Susan, Apr.1960; Ron, July 1961; and Bonnie, Jan. 1966. We have 17 grandchildren. Two of them are adopted. Margaret and I also have six great grandchildren.

To round out my life I have worked as chief maintenance engineer, worked in industrial maintenance and I also established preventive maintenance programs. I am a licensed, ordained Baptist minister. I have served as pastor of six churches. I attended Bible College and Seminary.
